DRIFTWOOD, Texas — A dead bat in Hays County has tested positive for rabies.

According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 5, deputies responded to a dead bat call in the 2000 block of Flint Rock Loop.

The bat was found in the yard of a private residence in the Rimrock subdivision, and all indications show that no human contact was made with the animal. The bat was examined by the Department of State Health Services and tested positive for the virus.
