AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas Governor Rick Perry was in Austin on Saturday and joined Republicans and conservatives at the Resurgent Gathering.

The Secretary of Energy sat down with attendees to talk Department of Energy policies under the Trump Administration. Topics included the department's role in North Korean nuclear discussions, cyber security and his role in promoting liquid natural gas around the world. Perry says using natural gas is the safest and most efficient way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"They're recognizing, if you want to address your climate, and we're talking about the emissions, go to LNG, it's one of the fastest ways to address the emissions issues is to go to cleaner burning LNG," he said.

According to the union of concerned scientists, liquified natural gas plants are cleaner than coal plants but still represent a long term danger to the environment. Perry and the Trump administration are also leading an effort for new high efficiency, low emission coal plants.
