AUSTIN, Texas – The dockless scooter company Bird has announced it is creating a Global Safety Advisory Board to help riders.

Bird officials said they will be working with cities to establish a fund to improve the quality of bike lanes. The company has dedicated funds as a part of the Save Our Sidewalks pledge to increase safety on the roads.  

Improvements will include repainting and repairing existing bike lanes while also creating protected ones.

"Bird is bringing the future of transportation to cities all over the world – a future that doesn't rely exclusively on cars and is less damaging to our environment," said David Strickland, director of Bird's Global Safety Advisory Board.

Bird has 500 scooters in Austin. The scooters are also other Texas cities include Dallas and San Antonio.
