AUSTIN, Texas — It's been 52 years since the University of Texas at Austin tower shooting.

On Aug. 1, 1966, a sniper went up to the top floor of the UT tower and opened fire, holding the campus hostage for 96 minutes.

The mass shooting left 16 people dead and three dozen injured.

The attack is considered one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

A plaque in memory of the victims was installed on campus in 2007.
