AUSTIN, Texas -- The second phase of gate renumbering at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is now underway.

Gate renumbering phase II will see Gates 16-20 change to Gates 25-29. Original gate numbers are being changed in multiple phases as part of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport nine-gate expansion project.

The final changing of the terminal gate numbers is expected to be completed this October.

The renumbering will start with Gate 25, which will become Gate 34, and work its way east down through the numeric system to where the new expanded concourse area meets the original concourse. The renumbering is scheduled to occur in multiple phases until October 2018. The process plans to change five gates at a time with changes occurring approximately every two weeks.

Airport officials said the terminal expansion will better serve growing passenger traffic and airlines. The airport recently added new nonstop international flights to London, the Dominican Republic, Guadalajara and Mexico.

The renumbering started with the original Gate 25, which became Gate 34, on Aug. 1 and now will move on to Gates 16-20 changing to Gates 25-29. This new change in the expansion will also take place on the concourse, jet bridges, jet parking, and directional signs.

The gate renumbering was necessitated by the addition of nine new gates as part of the terminal expansion that is currently taking place.
