GEORGETOWN, Texas – Police are investigating after 14 dead animals were found decomposing in a Georgetown home on Tuesday.

Police originally said more than 50 animals were found dead, but corrected their numbers to say that a total of 52 animals were found on the 600 block of PVR 914.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control unit was called around 10:30 p.m. Animal control said the 14 dead animals included four dogs and two cats found decomposing inside locked crates. The rest of the deceased animals were chickens and ducks.

Investigators took the 38 living animals to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter where they will be cared for. Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody tweeted that some of the animals were beheaded. At this time no one has been arrested.

On Wednesday afternoon Williamson County said the rescued animals cannot currently be adopted because the case has yet to go to court. However, people were urged to adopt or foster other availalbe animals to make needed space. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering an available animal is invited to Canine Corral, located at 425 E. Morrow St. in Georgetown's San Gabriel Park.
