Ronald Lowrey spent 5 years in the U.S. Navy.

He had been homeless until the VA and Lumbee Tribal Council provided housing for him. Lowrey is going blind due to glaucoma and is suffering from several other ailments.

Some folks have donated furniture and other items to help assist him, which he says, has changed his life.

"People doesn't understand that when you're homeless, you don't have anything. They might give you a house but you don't have no clothes, you don't have no dishes, you don't have no food to eat," he said.

Lowrey will have to undergo back surgery in a few weeks.

For those who might want to donate food or clothing to help him, donations can be sent to Burnt Summit Baptist Association, P.O. Box 1207, Pembroke, NC 28372.
