SAN ANTONIO – A 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair stopped a burglary suspect who was punching her son and attempting to steal from the home on July 17, according to the affidavit.

Police have accused 31-year-old Gerardo Lopez of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit assault.

The victims told investigators that Lopez slashed their tires before jumping over the backyard fence and entering the home without permission.

The mother told Lopez to stop, but he allegedly refused and walked into the kitchen to grab her son’s laptop. As the son confronted Lopez, he said the suspect put down the laptop and began punching him in the face.

Yelling for Lopez to leave, the mother grabbed a porcelain canister and hit the man on the head. Lopez then stopped attacking the son and left.

San Antonio police said Lopez has a criminal arrest record that includes narcotics charges and driving while intoxicated.
