AUSTIN, Texas – A factory working on a new blend of tortilla chips received a fiery surprise when the chips spontaneously combusted and caused two fires in southeast Austin.

The tortilla chip factory located in the 6110 block of Trade Center Drive went up in flames on July 12. The flames were contained to the outside of the building, catching multiple pallets of food waste on fire.

Three days later, more boxes of food waste spontaneously combusted at the same location.

Fire crews took precautionary measures by dousing the rest of the crates with water.

The only damage done was to the outside of the building.

Austin firefighters posted on Facebook about their love of tortilla chips and the distress they felt when the factory caught on fire.
