TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas – The Travis County Parks and Recreation Department has a prescribed burn planned for Pace Bend Park this week.

The burn will occur between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will take approximately three to five hours to complete. Travis County Parks is conducting the burning cooperation with authorities from local fire departments and natural resource agencies.

The burn is approximately 100 acres in size and is intended to reduce wildfire dangers and remove invasive plants, dead vegetation, reduce exotic species and enhance the diversity of native plants. Residents in the area should be aware that southerly winds will carry smoke across the park, lake and toward communities to the north. Authorities said they expect the impact of smoke to be relatively light.

The park will remain open, however, some portions of the park will remain closed for part of the week, including the mountain biking trail, the Tatum boat ramp and a portion of the Grisham Trail Road.
