PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – Pflugerville is launching a new pilot program this week, allowing food trucks in city limits.

Before the program, food trucks could only operate during a special event with a day permit or within a mobile food park. Many residents had to park their trucks in Austin to remain in business.

Sheldon Lamey with the Pflugerville Black Business Builders advocated for the new program, which was first brought before city council in May.

"Pflugerville is trying to loosen the restrictions to where you can actually get a permit that will last a lot longer," said Lamey.

"The pilot allows for food trucks to be located at commercial businesses or government offices, basically looking at just with the permission of the property owner," said Emily Barron, the city's Planning Director.

The city hopes this program can serve as a trial run to figure out how food trucks will operate moving forward.

"We are hoping we will get some good feedback from the community to better articulate food trucks in our ordinance," said Barron.

The program will end in December.
