AUSTIN, Texas — The trial for a man accused in the murder and rape of UT student Haruka Weiser continued Friday.

The prosecution called two members of the Austin Fire Department to the stand. They testified about the warming fire Meechaiel Criner started on April 4, 2016 in an abandoned building near UT's campus.

Fire specialist, Aaron Wernsman says after learning Criner was homeless, he helped him find a place to stay and kept one of his bikes at the station for him to pick up.

Days later, Wernsman saw the surveillance video of the suspect in Weiser's murder.

He testified he had "an immediate reaction in his body" and knew immediately it was Criner and the same bike he kept for him.

Firefighter John Bass said he also recognized the bike from the surveillance video and that the man in the video had the same build as Criner.

The trial will pick back up on Monday.
