AUSTIN, Texas – A fallen Austin Fire Department cadet was honored in a special way.
Devon Coney died last month after having a medical emergency at the training academy.
To honor his memory, members of Cadet Class 126 set aside one of their bundles. They commemorated the cadet by adding his name and identification number to the bundles.
Now, current and future members training at the academy will carry the memorial to Cadet Coney.
“His class also continues to honor his memory and service, maintaining his spot in the line every day,” posted the Austin Fire Department on Facebook. “No man gets left behind.”
Coney was laid to rest on July 2.
A scholarship fund has been set up for Coney’s 5-year-old son, Davian. All of the funds will go directly to Davian’s education. Checks and money orders can be paid to the Greater Austin Crime Commission at P.O. Box 27016, Austin TX 78755. Indicate in memo line that the funds are for “Devon Coney Scholarship Fund.”
