AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is asking scooter users to stick to roads and bike lanes.

City rules ban motor vehicles in parks, which includes the hike and bike trails.

Battery-powered scooters still count as motor vehicles. The Parks Department said a fair share of electric scooters have been seen buzzing along the city's trails and green spaces. Bird is one of the scooter operators in Austin. The company said it educates riders about safe and responsible riding through the app.

A spokesperson said they're working closely with city officials to address the issue.
