AUSTIN, Texas — A man hospitalized after crashing his motorcycle in East Austin last week has died, Austin police confirmed Thursday.

The preliminary investigation shows that Michael Watson, 38, lost control of his motorcycle he was driving northbound on Springdale Road. He struck the west curb of Springdale Road before hitting the north curb on Webberville Road and then crashed into a utility pole. Watson was thrown from the motorcycle.

He was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:22 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20.

This is Austin's 29th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 30 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 30 fatal traffic crashes and 32 traffic fatalities.
