AUSTIN, Texas — Nationwide, the country is becoming older and more diverse, according to the Census report.

While Austin and the surrounding area are predominantly white, the Hispanic population of Texas is continuing to grow, with 234,000 people. Texas also had the largest black or African-American population with 3.8 million. Asian Americans make up about 5 percent of the population.

A More Diverse Nation

The majority of counties in the country are conting to grow older. The nation as a whole experienced a median age increase from 37.2 years to 38.0 years during the period 2010 to 2017.
