According to CPPD, as the victim was walking from his vehicle to an apartment, he was hit in the back of the head and knocked to the ground.  The suspect continued to hit him in the abdomen before grabbing an envelope with $500 cash from his pocket. The suspect then got into a black vehicle and left the area.

Review of apartment surveillance showed that the suspect vehicle may be a Honda Civic with paper plates.

The victim is a 68-year-old Vietnam vet and was at the apartment complex helping a friend move. He was medically treated and is recovering from injuries.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, approximately 30 years of age, around 6 feet tall and roughly 170 pounds.  A sketch of the suspect is attached. The victim said there may have been another black male in the vehicle but was unable to provide further details.

The department asks residents to be aware of the danger of "jugging" — a crime that occurs when criminals follow people exiting banks in order to rob them. Please be aware of your surroundings, conceal any cash before leaving a bank, do not hide cash in your car and watch for people following you. If you suspect you are being targeted, call 911 so a dispatcher can pinpoint your location and respond accordingly.
