TEXAS – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is targeting scam artists who try to defraud small businesses.

Paxton's office is taking action against three companies. One of the businesses is San Antonio-based American Advertising Concepts.

According to Paxton, the company sold advertising space on dry-erase boards to small business owners by falsely claiming affiliations with schools and apartment complexes.

A temporary restraining order was filed against Corporation Compliance Solutions. The company is accused of warning small businesses that they need to comply with federal labor laws or face fines and imprisonment. They convinced owners to purchased $84 labor compliance posters.

“Small businesses in Texas and across the nation are the cornerstone of the economy and deserve to be treated honestly and fairly,” said Paxton.

The sweep is part of the Federal Trade Commission's Operation Main Street initiative.
