SAN ANTONIO – The meeting in which the Alamo Master Plan was discussed was met with boos from the community on Monday.

The Master Plan meeting was the first of many where the public can share their thoughts on the latest renderings of the Alamo project.

The biggest disagreement between the planners and the public continues to be over the Cenotaph, a large monument. The group of community members who frequently attend these meetings is demanding that the Cenotaph stay where it is.

Right now, the idea is to move the Cenotaph to what will become one of the main entrances of the plaza.

Project planners said the Cenotaph will actually help set the tone for the space. Some members of the community don't agree.

"Actually, where the Cenotaph stands, it is actually in the center point of the Indian burial ground of Alamo Plaza. It has a totally correct historical context," said Maria Torres with the Pacuache Indian First Nation.

Councilman Roberto Trevino is urging the community to give the project a chance and said the City has a great opportunity.

Last year, the City hosted 14 public input meetings after the first round of renderings were released. During that time, the public pointed out concerns with lack of shade and a glass wall that was originally set to surround the plaza.

The updated renderings, released a couple of days ago, calls for more trees and eliminates the idea of a glass wall.
