AUSTIN, Texas – A suspect is in custody after a fire was started at an historic Austin venue Monday morning.

Around 4:30 a.m. a fire started at The Austin Club, located in the 110 block of East 9th Street.

A small fire was reported on the third floor, which was controlled by the sprinkler system. Firefighters are working to remove smoke and water from the building.

Police believe the fire was started intentionally.

Fire investigators are working with Austin police. 

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Matthew Caldwell. He was arrested on three charges of arson.
