SAN MARCOS, Texas – San Marcos police said a suspect has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run that happened Friday evening.

Authorities responded to the incident that happened shortly after 7 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Riverside at the west IH 35 Access.

Upon arrival, officers found that a man from Kyle had been struck by a 1998 Toyota van. The victim, 50-year-old Tyrus Piano of Kyle, was pronounced dead on-scene. Witnesses reported that the van had jumped the curb and struck the victim, who was on the sidewalk. A passenger in the van fled on foot from the scene and was taken into custody nearby by Texas State University Police.

The driver of the van fled the scene in the van and ultimately lost control and crashed into a tree. The driver was helped out of the vehicle and held at the scene by witnesses.

He was taken into custody by San Marcos police officers and transported to Central Texas Medical Center before being booked into the Hays County Jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

The suspect has been identified as Uriah Keith Robinson, 30. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
