EDEN, N.C. -- Six arrests have been made as police investigate stores selling alcohol to minors.

  • The crackdown follows drunk driving charges against a teen in Eden
  • At least six of the stores were caught selling to a minor working as a police informant
  • Police conducted a city-wide alcohol compliance check-targeting thirty stores

The crackdown follows drunk driving charges against a teen in Eden last week.

Police say after arresting the convenience store owner that sold the teen alcohol, they conducted a city-wide alcohol compliance check-targeting thirty stores.

They say at least six of the stores were caught selling to a minor working as a police informant.

"We could lose our license," said Kristy Shelton, a manager at J-Mart. "They can come in here and put chains through all the doors. Then you can't come in here and buy a beer at all."

The stores caught selling alcohol to minors will also receive a citation from the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Agency.
