TEXAS – HEB brisket smoked sausage has been recalled due to an undisclosed ingredient.
The Texas company J Bar B Foods, issued the recall for 410,985 pounds of beef brisket smoked sausage for mislabeling. The sausages contain pork casing, which is not listed on the product label and could potentially cause an allergic reaction for unsuspecting consumers.
The ready-to-eat sausage was sold in Texas from June 21, 2016 to May 29, 2018.
An inquiring customer discovered the issue on June 12 when asking if the sausage contained pork as it did not specify on the ingredient list.
So far, there have not been any reports of illness or reactions among consumers.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety said the product should be thrown away or returned.
