AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas lawmakers have started unpacking Gov. Greg Abbott's school safety recommendations. The newly-formed Senate Violence in Schools and School Security Committee met for the first time since Abbott released a 40-page plan following the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas that left 10 people dead.

Lawmakers heard from architects on ways to design schools to reduce threats. They also discussed installing metal detectors, ramping up police presence and training more teachers to carry guns. Reporter Chelsey Trahan will have more at 7 p.m. on what lawmakers, law enforcement and other experts say is needed to better protect Texas students and who’s going to pay for it.

Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Beto O'Rourke has visited all of Texas' 254 counties.

It's a campaign promise he made when he kicked off his uphill bid to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz more than 14 months ago. O'Rourke's Saturday stop in Gainesville, near the Oklahoma border, secured his county-by-county statewide tour.

The Quorum Reports Harvey Kronberg joins us Monday night to discuss the candidate's strategy.
