AUSTIN, Texas – A malfunctioning escalator filled the lobby of a downtown Austin building with smoke Friday morning.
The escalator caught on fire around 8 a.m. at the Travis County Administration building, located in the 700 block of Lavaca Street.
Crews said the motor of the escalator is to blame for the fire.
The building was evacuated while firefighters worked to clear out the smoke.
