AUSTIN, Texas —  Interim Austin Police Department Chief Brian Manley is on step closer to becoming the permanent police chief.

In a memo from Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk to Mayor Steve Adler and the Austin City Council, Cronk stated he intends to put an item on the June 14 City Council meeting to officially make Manley police chief.

“I am confident that Brian Manley will meet my performance expectations,” Cronk wrote in the memo.

Manley was named the interim chief of police in November 2016 after Art Acevedo left the department and was named Houston Police Department chief. Cronk named Manley as the sole finalist for police chief on April 30.
