FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Paratroopers of the First Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division have been undergoing live fire training. That means the ammo used is real.

  • The goal is to be overprepared for any situation they may potentially face in a dangerous location.
  • The on call responsibility of being a global response force lasts 6 months.
  • Each brigade in the division spends time as a Global Response Force

Each brigade in the division spends time as a Global Response Force, who's duty is the ability to respond to any world crisis within 18 hours of notification. Commanders say the goal is to be overprepared for any situation they may potentially face in a dangerous location.

""Adding problem, upon problem and giving leaders the opportunity to think through the problems, fight through them and we do it here in training so that way they get it sunk in to their cognitive memory, said First Sergeant Brian Boyt.

Several types of live fire training happen at the squad and company level. Right now, the on call responsibility of being a global response force lasts 6 months.
