A turkey who ruffled some feathers on Staten Island and her 18 unhatahced eggs are getting a new home at an upstate sanctuary.

Homeowner Richard Gambardella says the turkey set up her nest on his front lawn and was very aggressive anytime he went near it.

He had trouble getting her out, since a state permit is required for removal.

But a sanctuary in the Catskills stepped in and safely transported the bird and her eggs Wednesday.

"It's not just about catching the bird, it's also catching the bird and in a way that is the little traumatic as possible. You know simply because these are wild animals, it's not your, you now, pet," said AND-HOF Sanctuary Founder and Executive Director Kurt Andernach.

"I never thought that all these people would come like this. But thank God they took the bird. She's safe," Gambardella said.

The eggs are expected to hatch within the next two weeks.

Staten Island is home to hundreds of wild turkeys.
