SAN ANTONIO — Texas is on top when it comes to population gains in the U.S., the U.S. Census reported Thursday. 

Seven of the 15 cities or towns with the largest population gains were located in Texas in 2017, with three of the top five in Texas, according to the new population estimates released.

As far as large cities with the largest population growth go, San Antonio ranked No.1 with 24,208 people added, and Austin, No. 12 with 12,515 people added. Dallas, Fort Worth and Frisco also made the list.

As you can see below, out of the 7, 5 are in our Central Texas area. 

The 15 fastest-growing large cities/towns between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017 (Populations of 50,000 or more in 2016):

  1. Frisco, Texas: 8.2 percent increase in population (177,286)
  2. New Braunfels, Texas: 8 percent increase in population (79,152)
  3. Pflugerville, Texas: 6.5 percent increase in population (63,359)
  4. Ankeny, Iowa: 6.4 percent increase in population (62,416)
  5. Buckeye, Arizona: 5.9 percent increase in population (68,453)
  6. Georgetown, Texas: 5.4 percent increase in population (70,685)
  7. Castle Rock, Colorado: 5.1 percent increase in population (62,276)
  8. Franklin, Tennessee: 4.9 percent increase in population (78,321)
  9. McKinney, Texas: 4.8 percent increase in population (181,330)
  10. Meridian, Idaho: 4.7 percent increase in population (99,926)
  11. Flower Mound, Texas, 4.3 percent increase in population (76,681)
  12. Bend, Oregon:  4.3 percent increase in population  (94,520)
  13. Cedar Park, Texas: 4.2 percent increase in population (75,704)
  14. Doral, Florida:  4.2 percent increase in population  (61,130)
  15. Fort Myers, Florida:  4.2 percent increase in population (79,943)
