AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police on Thursday announced an upgrade of charges after a hospitalized man  succumbed to his injuries nearly 14 months later.

Carlos Ray Harris, 29, had been previously charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At 5:10 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2017, along the 5600 block of Purple Sage near LBJ Early College High School, police got a 911 call about a shooting where they found Andrew Lamont Brady, 20, injured on the ground with obvious body trauma from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds, police said in an the press release.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics stabilized Brady before transporting him to Dell Seton Medical Center.

Based on eyewitness accounts, Carlos Ray Harris, 29, was determined to have been the shooter. Two days after the shooting, an arrest warrant was secured for Harris. He was arrested the same day by members of the Austin Police Department Gang Unit, according to law enforcement officials.

Brady, died exactly a year later on Feb. 23, 2018, succumbing to his injuries, with the cause of death determined to have been complications stemming from gunshot wounds.

The manner of death subsequently was upgraded to murder, and Harris remains in custody but with bond increased to $250,000.
