DEER PARK, Texas — Members of the Santa Fe High School baseball team did their part in helping the community heal after a gunman killed 10 people and injured 13 others at their school on Friday.

The Santa Fe Indians returned to the field Saturday for the final game of the season. Fans packed the stands, and two players injured by gunfire Friday joined their teammates in the dugout.

B.J. Powers, a Deer Park, Texas resident, usually supports Santa Fe's opponents, but on this night he felt compelled to support Santa Fe by making stickers with a picture of Texas and the Santa Fe logo and the message, “#Strong.”

"I was literally sitting in my shop working,” Powers said. “The news comes on, and I feel like somebody's tied my hands behind my back. I can't do nothing. I am a military vet; I want to do something to help, and this is what we will call my therapy."

Santa Fe ISD will be closed through at least Tuesday. District leaders say they want to give the community time to grieve and heal and allow investigators to continue their work.

"It is going to take us days, weeks, months--maybe even years--to get over this,” Santa Fe Mayor-Elect Jason Tabor said. “We are doing this all together. It is going to take more than just our own city to heal from this."
