SUGAR LAND, Texas – A seven-foot alligator decided to make himself at home under a family's SUV in Sugar Land, near Houston.

Police had to call for backup to handle the large reptile, which fought wranglers as they tried to get it out from under the truck.

Experts said May begins alligator mating season, and they are likely to pop up in unusual places.

"They go up this time of year. Gators travel a lot at night, going from pond to pond, looking for girlfriends, food, setting up time for mating. That's all that they're doing," said Gator Chris Stephens with the Texas Gator Squad.

The gator was eventually captured and relocated back to the Brazos River.
