TEXAS – A form of online voter registration could soon be available to Texas voters. That's because a federal judge has ruled the state isn't complying with a decades-old voter registration law and wants a quick fix.

The judge said Texas is running afoul of the National Voter Registration Act. That measure requires letting people sign-up to vote while getting or renewing their driver's license. Texans can already register in person at Department of Public Safety offices, but not when they renew their licenses online.

The judge gave Texas until Thursday to fix that.

Texas has said it will appeal the ruling. Still supporters are hopeful the court order could lead to online voter registration.
