AUSTIN, Texas — The city is less than a month away from Cap Remap, an Austin transit system overhaul that will impact more than two dozen of the 80 existing bus routes.

New signs will be posted around hundreds of bus stops let riders know how service is changing.

Three hundred stops will be removed, but 110 will be added. Fourteen routes will be high frequency, meaning buses will run at least every 15 minutes.

Two routes will be eliminated completely, and 9 new ones will be created.

Cap Metro’s goal is to create direct routing, avoid deviations, and decrease wait times.

"What we’ve been trying to is reduce duplication in our network so that way we can offer one ride that comes more frequently instead of two or maybe even three buses that come less frequently,” said Cap Metro’s Lonny Stern.

Capital Metro said Northeast and Southeast Austin will see the most significant changes.

Staff will be trained and on the streets to help riders out that week before and after June 3.
