AUSTIN, Texas — Some moms prefer to do something a little more adventurous on their special day.

According to the National Retail Federation, 29 percent of moms want to receive a gift of an experience on Mother's Day.

Daniel Cordido is an instructor at IFLY. He said holidays like Mother’s Day typically bring in the most customers, hoping to bond over thrill-seeking.

"They are all first-timers coming here and they can all relate to each other in that they are all learning something new and I think that's what bonds them together," Cordido said.

Amanda Ihrig and her 5-year-old daughter Avery weren't quite sure where they would end up on Mother's Day. Her boyfriend surprised the pair with indoor skydiving, a first time experience for both of them.

"I only knew for sure when we pulled up and I was super excited," she said. "We don't have a whole lot of extra time, so this is something that is really special for us. We don't get to do things just us very often."

For Troy and Lisa Jernigan, indoor skydiving was a spur of the moment adventure, while visiting Austin for the weekend.

"I know she wanted to do it three years ago and when I was just looking through my phone, I'm like 'Oh, I can take her over there and surprise her,'" Troy Jernigan said.

"I love to do activities rather than just go out to eat and I like to do active things," Lisa Jernigan said.

The Moms added it’s likely they will remember this Mother's Day and the new experience for years to come.

"It's definitely one of the most unique experiences I've had yet," Ihrig said.
