FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas – A man was arrested after a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office K-9 found $2.7 million worth of methamphetamines hidden inside the gas tank of a vehicle on Wednesday.

Around 11:38 a.m., a sergeant, along with K-9 Lobos, stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation. As the sergeant began to question the driver and his wife, he noticed conflicting details in each of their stories about where they were going.

Suspicious that the vehicle might be smuggling drugs from Mexico to Houston, the sergeant was given a warrant to search the vehicle.

Lobos immediately alerted the sergeant that illegal narcotics were inside the vehicle. The sergeant searched the gas tank and found 16 bundles of meth totaling 27 kilos.

The driver, 29-year-old Felipe De Jesus Mendez Ramos, was arrested and accused of felony drug possession.
