AUSTIN, Texas -- It's been a battle over Democratic party loyalty in the run up to the runoff for Texas House District 46.

Former Austin City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem for the city, Sheryl Cole, and immigration attorney, Chito Vela, are duking it out in the race to replace longtime Rep. Dawnna Dukes. Dukes was defeated in the recent primary election.

The district is one of the most diverse and Democratic in the state. It covers much of East Austin, Manor and into Pflugerville. The remaining two candidates agree on many of the issues. So instead, the focus has shifted to who's the most faithful Democrat.

Chito Vela will be on Capital Tonight on Thursday.
