A Texan looking to head the Department of Veterans Affairs has withdrawn his name from consideration. White House Doctor and Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson's nomination was hampered by a flurry of allegations about his professional conduct.

The head of a Texas veterans organization says it’s concerning.

“Nothing good ever comes out of a vacant position like this,” Jim Brennan, legislative director of the Texas Coalition of Veterans Organizations, said. “We’ve seen programs that are in the works now that are going to be delayed. We need strong leadership to advocate for things like our electronic records merging that requires funding.”

Brennan said he does support another Texan for the position.

“Governor (Rick) Perry understands veterans and veterans issues,” Brennan said. “Certainly in Texas, we’d always like to see a Texan in that position. But I think he would be great for veterans all over the country.”

Perry’s currently the Energy Secretary but his name has been mentioned before for the VA position.
