AUSTIN, Texas -- A local comedian is recovering after being stabbed, and he's using his experience to gather material for future jokes.

Seth Murray, also known as "Seth Goodtime" on social media, works as a part-time comedian, mainly selling his jokes to the website "Funny or Die." Given his profession, it's no surprise that when he fell on some misfortune of his own that he would make a joke out of it.

Murray said he was walking to a gas station last Friday to get a cup of coffee when all of a sudden he felt like he was being followed.

"I felt like a punch in my back. Turns out it wasn't a punch, and then I turned around and I said something like, 'What's going on, bro?'" said Murray.

He said he was stabbed a few more times before he ran into the street to get away from his attacker. He then ran to the nearby gas station to call for help. Murray ended up with more than 20 staples in his back and arms and went through two blood transfusions.

"When I was being rolled into the trauma center, I said, 'If they get me on too powerful drugs, anything stupid I say, please write it down because I will use it later,'" Murray said.

He's received donations from fellow comedians and encouraged them to make fun of his situation.

"'Like your medical bills, this joke is going to come at your expense.' It's just a bunch of things that everyone wrote just to make me feel better," said Murray, reading one of the jokes written about his situation.

Doctors plan to remove the staples from Murray's wounds next Friday. He plans to do some open mics after he recovers.

Austin police confirmed they are investigating an aggravated assault near Burleson Road and E. Ben E White Boulevard last Friday around 11:45 a.m. Spectrum News is waiting to hear back from the detective assigned to the case.

There is a GoFundMe account set up for those wishing to donate to Murray's recovery. It is available here
