CENTRAL TEXAS -- A cold front brought isolated storms to Central Texas Wednesday afternoon, prompting concerns about hail and winds.

  • Storm brought rain, wind lightning to San Antonio and surrounding communities. 
  • Thousands of customers lose power in the San Antonio area
  • Weather prompts cancellation of Ford Mariachi Festival in San Antonio 

The National Weather Service issued a series of watches for areas including Bexar, Medina and Frio counties. There were no immediate reports of damages, however.

As of 5:23 p.m., CPS Energy reported 95 power outages affecting 5,220 customers. Power outage updates are available here

San Antonio River Walk via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon reported the Ford Mariachi Festival was canceled Wednesday evening due to weather. It was hoped the event would continue on Thursday.

By 4:10 p.m., there was heavy rain, lightning and thunder in parts of San Antonio. By 4:45 p.m., moderate rain was falling in Austin.

 

 

 

The National Weather Service reported dime-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 50 mph could occur across southern Medina and northern Frio counties.

The cold front quickly dropped temperatures in the Austin area. The National Weather Service reported rain and thunderstorms were moving from west to east across Travis County.
