AUSTIN, Texas – A pedestrian killed walking along the southbound Interstate 35 service road in South Austin on Saturday, April 21 has been identified.

According to Austin police, 32-year-old Dystany Farrias was walking near the right shoulder on the 8100 block of I-35, partially in the roadway.

Around 3:41 a.m. a silver Chevrolet pickup truck was driving in the southbound right lane when the driver hit the pedestrian with the front panel of the truck.

Austin/Travis County EMS pronounced Farrias dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and was not injured.

The case is still actively being investigated by Austin police, who ask anyone with information to call their Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-8544.

This is the 20th fatal crash in 2018, making 21 fatalities this year.
