BUDA, Texas — The racing hot dogs are making their way back to Buda and these speedy Slinkys are going for the gold.

In its 21st year, the theme for the annual Buda Lions Club Country Fair and Wiener Dog Races is “Wonder Wiener."

Races take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 28-29 at Buda City Park.

Reporter Reena Diamante covered last year's event:

The event features arts and crafts from dozens of vendors, a pet parade, a bake-, fajita- and barbecue-off, and both purebred wiener and mixed wiener races around the clock.

The best part is that it's all for a good cause. Proceeds from the event benefit the Texas Lions Camp for children with physical disabilities and children with diabetes.

Free shuttle rides and parking (highly recommended as traffic tends to get gridlocked the closer you get to the park due to trains, pedestrians) are available from Cabela's.

Admission is $5 per person, and children under the age of 12 are free.

Why should I go to 'Wonder Wiener'?

The races are an experience to behold. People from all over bring their dachshunds to race and the result is a lot of laughs, some 'serious' betting and really, really good food/fun.

How do I enter my own dog?

Is your dog dachshund or part dachshund? Yes? Then come on down. Early online registration closed April 10, but interested racers can still sign up in advance or on-site the day of.

For non-wieners, don't fret. Take part in the annual Pet Parade. It's an opportunity to outshine fellow puppers (and owners) with categories like most colorful, best theme and most unusual.
