SAN ANTONIO — A special tribute to Coach Gregg Popovich has gone up on the city's South Side.

Roland Ramirez, the owner of Rudy's Seafood, had been planning the mural for a year.

  • Popovich panel finished on the day his wife's death was announced

Nik Soupè, part of the two-man street art muralist group Los Otros, finished the Manu Ginobili portrait two weeks ago and the picture of Pop was completed the day news broke about the coach's wife passing.

Ramirez believes the personal connection people feel to the Spurs and Pop is the reason so many people have stopped by to take a look.

"Something this town just embraced. You see Pop more, not so much as a coach. He's always talking about human rights. He's not afraid to speak his mind and speak his politics,” said Ramirez.

He hopes Pop knows the city is praying for him.

A portrait of Tony Parker will be painted on the backside of the building sometime next week.
