HOUSTON — In the public eye, former first lady Barbara Bush was known to be plain-spoken, and wore faux pearls. Her neighbors said tha i’s exactly how she was at home here at home, around the Tanglewood section of the City where she lived.

Neighbors tells Spectrum News, if anyone saw her she did not want them to roll out the red carpet and give her the rock star treatment. She wanted to be treated just like everyone else.

Tanglewood Park is just around the corner from the subdivision where she lived, and inside is a dog park. The Bush family, of course, were dog lovers. Barbara would be seen walking her pets around parks. Reisdents said she was an inspiration and admired her devotion to her family.

"She was someone who was in charge and made things happen that people didn’t realize she was the architect of those things,” Shannon Wiesedeppe said.

“Being a proponent of the literacy program, and doing a great job raising your children, means that you’re doing a great job in your communit,” Julia Roberts said.

There’s going to be a public visitation tomorrow at St. Martin’s Church, the church that Barbara and President George H.W. Bush attended. She will be laid to rest Saturday.
