SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs are mourning the loss of their head coach Gregg Popovich’s wife.

The team will be led by a substitute, assistant coach Ettore Messina, on Thursday.

Erin Popovich passed away on Wednesday at the age of 67. Erin and Gregg have two children and two grandchildren.

"We mourn the loss of Erin," Spurs general manager RC Buford said in a team statement. "She was a strong, wonderful, kind, intelligent woman who provided love, support and humor to all of us."

Gregg Popovich has coached for the San Antonio Spurs since 1996.

The Spurs will play the Golden State Thursday night in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.
