SAN ANTONIO -- Community members turned out Saturday, offering support to those living with disabilities.

Haven for Hope and Project Mend hosted a medical equipment drive, collecting items like wheelchairs that are no longer being used.

The items collected will be refurbished by Project Mend and put to good use.

"Most of the people in need of equipment, it's as basic as a wheelchair or something to get around. Without that they can't get from where they are to where they need to be. It's pretty fundamental to life," said Melody McCrea, with Haven for Hope.

Nearly a quarter of the 1,700 people who get assistance at Haven for Hope each day live with physical challenges. Anyone that was not able to make it out to Haven For Hope to donate any unused equipment can drop it off at a local Goodwill store.
