LEANDER, Texas — The Leander Police Department were able to prevent a credit card skimmer installation, catching the suspect in the act.

On April 13, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Leander Police Department patrol officers observed a suspicious vehicle parked at the gas pumps of a closed convenience store located in the 1900 block of South Bagdad Road in Leander.

Officers made contact with Leonardo Heredia Gonzalez, age 28, who, according to police, was behaving suspiciously near the gas pumps.

As officers made contact, they discovered that Gonzalez was in the process of removing components from the credit card reader on one of the gas pumps.

After an initial investigation the officers arrested Gonzalez, and charged him with criminal Mischief and 3 counts of unlawful use of a criminal instrument or mechanical security device.

Leander PD officers checked other convenience stores in the area and did not find any indications that he tampered with other gas pumps.

This case remains under investigation.
