UPDATE [7:15 p.m.] San Antonio police confirm that suspect Ronald Jacobs is now in their custody.

On the afternoon of April 12, detectives from the Special Victims Unit were able to reach the suspect by phone and convinced him to turn himself in. They met the suspect at 4600 Thousand Oaks where he was taken into custody without incident. 

Twenty-two-year-old Jacobs will be charged with aggrevated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, the 8-year-old victim was in a room upstairs with the suspect, when the suspect accidentally discharged the weapon. Before police arrived, he fled the scene.

The boy was struck in the abdominal area by the bullet and transported by EMS to University Hospital and is in stable but guarded condition.

Jacobs' bond is set at $75,000.

SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio police say an 8-year-old boy is wounded after a family member shot him in the abdomen.

According to officials, 21-year-old suspect Ronald Jacobs fired a gun on the evening of Tuesday, April 10, striking the boy in the abdomen. The two were in the upstairs room of a San Antonio home* during the time of the shooting.

The shooting could have been accidental, however, according to police, Jacobs fled on foot after the shooting and remains at large. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital in stable but guarded condition.

Jacobs will face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, if found.

Police confirm that the victim's family is cooperating with the investigation.
