LAGO VISTA, Texas -- Several agencies, including crews from Leander, Austin, Marble Falls, Cedar Park and Lake Travis, battled a brush fire in northwest Travis County Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. at 6724 Singleton Bend in Lago Vista.

According to Travis County Fire authorities as of 4 p.m. the fire had grown to more than 100 acres. Authorities also said that the blaze jumped the road where firefighters were hoping it would stop.

"When our initial truck arrived on scene, they had a fire that had already escalated to about five or seven acres. It was in heavy fuel, a fast-moving fire,” said Norman.

Two STARFlight helicopters running water drops, but the winds were unrelenting.

"These gusts of wind come in and change the wind direction and speed, so it takes a slow-moving fire and escalates it to a fast-moving fire,” said Chief Donnie Norman, Travis County ESD 1.

The fire is now 100 percent contained, but crews are expected to be in the area overnight putting out remaining parts of the fire.

A burn ban for Travis County was just issued Tuesday. The Fire Marshal's Office says just because grass is green, doesn't mean it isn't fuel for a fire

"Once it does, it begins to crawl along the ground. Then it begins to do what we call ladder,” said Will Boettner, of the Travis County Fire Marshal's Office.Norman said that one firefighter was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
