SAN MARCOS, Texas — Eight people have received criminal trespass warnings after posting racially insensitive flyers at Texas State University.

A letter posted on the university’s website said there were 14 incidents of unauthorized racist flyers being posted on campus during the school year.

Earlier this year, the University Police Department received a tip that led to the detainment of eight people who admitted posting the flyers on campus. They were not arrested because they did not break any laws. However, they were given the warnings because they did not have permission to post the flyers. The warning prohibits them from returning to campus them and they are subject to arrest should they return.

The eight people were not Texas State students and told police they were affiliated with white supremacy organizations.

Overall, officials emphasized increased security measures taken to ensure the safety of faculty, staff and students. This includes increased foot patrol, emergency phones on campus and increased video surveillance. University police continue to monitor campus for similar flyers and have been working with the FBI and the Anti-Defamation League throughout the investigation.
